Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as EFT or tapping, is a healing tool that combines the physical benefits of acupuncture with the psychological benefits of therapy. The idea behind EFT is that unresolved emotional issues are the underlying cause of your symptoms, whether they be of physical or psychological nature. EFT is used to clear these “emotional blockages” that are impeding your ability to heal or live to your fullest potential by bringing balance to your energy circuits.
The meridians, or energy circuits, that run throughout our bodies were discovered by the Chinese over 5,000 years ago. They are the centerpiece of acupuncture, reiki and acupressure. It is much more recently that these age-old Eastern health practices are finally being recognized by Western medicine and we are starting to acknowledge the energy that flows through our bodies and the power we can harness from it.
EFT provides both physical and emotional pain relief.
How Does It Work?
Physical and mental pain actually share the same part of the brain, so the mind-body connection is truly there. It is well known that chronic pain can trigger depression and chronic depression or emotional pain can trigger physical illness as well.
Emotional Freedom Technique has been shown to provide great improvements for both physical and emotional pain. It is a psychological acupressure technique that uses the same energy meridians used in acupuncture without the invasiveness of needles.
You simply use your fingertips to gently tap these different meridians along the head and torso while saying a positive affirmation aloud. The combination of tapping these points and saying the affirmation works to clear any “emotional blockages” you may have. This allows your body to find balance and better address any physical or mental improvements desired.
There are countless peer reviewed studies and research articles about EFT, or tapping, but most say (and I agree) that the best way for someone to determine how they feel about EFT is to try it.
It is very simple to teach oneself where to tap and what to say and there is truly no other way to better understand the energy balance that comes from this than to experience it for yourself. We all carry some “emotional blockages” with us in life, so it can only be of benefit to give it a try.
